A Place to Be
"The Culture Rooms" is currently in the process of developing a unique space in Cobbs Creek, aptly named 'A Place to Be,' which was previously a check-cashing establishment. This gut renovation project aims to transform the space into a dynamic and creative hub. 'A Place to Be' will serve as a platform for mindful activations, including art exhibitions, discussions, workshops, and community events.
This innovative space seeks to act as a springboard and incubator for Black creatives, tapping into the richness and significance of Black culture today and its aspirations for the future. Located in a 700 sqft area in West Philadelphia, a community with a predominantly Non-Hispanic Black or African-American population (76.2%), the project is founded on a "for us by us" model. This model empowers previously untapped creatives to showcase their work on their own terms. "The Culture Rooms" plays a crucial role by providing the physical space, fostering connections within a like-minded community, and enabling innovative ideas to flourish. This initiative is a testament to their commitment to nurturing and promoting Black artistic expression and community engagement.
